I've began reading Robert Galbraith's The Cuckoo's Calling. I'm sure everybody in my flist will know why...

I've got this urge to reread The Wind in the Willows, or at least rewatch the TV show, which I absolutely loved when I was little. I've no idea where this urge came from, though...

I'm currently reading Diana Wynne Jones' Enchanted Glass, one of her standalone stories (in other words, one that's completely unrelated to Howl, Chrestomanci or Dalemark). Imagine my surprise when, halfway through it, we meet a boy called Rolf, who can turn into a dog!

I'm still reading Reflections: On the Magic of Writing, a compilation of essays and public speeches Diana Wynne Jones has written throughout her career. In the book there's also an interview by Charlie Butler, which I'm currently halfway through, and this particular bit has just made me laugh: Cut. )

Snaps please?

I tried reading Fifty Shades of Gray and was extremely surprised that I was able to endure more of it before giving up than I had with Twilight. Ah well, I'm cleansing my reading palate with the Dark is Rising series, so all is good now.

I changed my CDJ's layout. Initially I was just thinking of doing something Halloweenish for the season, but ended up going for a more Hufflepuff-ish theme. Well, something that will become Hufflepuff-ish once I replace the blueish-grey background, anyway.

IJ notifications are driving me nuts, especially when it comes to my mod duties. While I received some notifications for comments left on my CDJ and character journals more or less in time, it took some 15 hours between the time an application was submitted to [info]gobletmods and the time said submission reached my inbox, and 10 hours between a request for a re-hold and my getting the notification.

I'm still feeling a bit poorly, but I've been fighting it by drinking copious amounts of chocolate tea, reading Diana Wynne Jones and watching Doctor Who, and it seems to be doing the trick perfectly.

I'm a bad, bad mod. I should be giving people a good example, and finish Slughorn's application in a timely fashion. With the backstory Hayley and I came up with a few days ago, I should be going "Yay!" and laughing my ass off while writing about his early days as a teacher. Instead... I'm reading Doctor Who novelizations. I've started about the third one this week. And... it's Underworld! *ducks*

I'm also reading Agatha Christie's autobiography. Really compelling stuff, though it still doesn't help me in the least with Sluggy. And I should write a post for Miles at PA - he hates it when I neglect him. Particularly now that he's decided to adopt that gnome that keeps invading his home.

Reading Order of the Phoenix now. I've reached the Gryffindor-Hufflepuff match in chapter 26, and I have a very angry Irishman shouting inside my brain now - namely at this part:

It was hard to say what the worst thing was: Harry thought it was a close-run contest between Ron’s fourteenth failed save, Sloper missing the Bludger but hitting Angelina in the mouth with his bat, and Kirke shrieking and falling backward off his broom as Zacharias Smith zoomed at him carrying the Quaffle.

So yeah. Andrew? Declan says sorry mate, but YOU SUCK.

2008 To-Read List

This is the list of books I am planning to read this year. I'll add books to it whenever I manage to get my hands on something new, and I'll strike a book once I finish it.

The list. )
